Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Monday I am trying out for Jekyll and Hyde?

Question:And I want to be Emma. I think I am up against this realllly good person for her, but I reallly want this. Any suggestions how to act like Emma while singing Green Finch and Linnet Bird?

I'm singing:
Ringdove and robinet
is it for wages?
Singing to be sold?
Have you decided it's safer in cages
singing when you're told?
My cage has many rooms
damask and dark...
Nothing there sings,
not even my lark.
Larks never will, you know,
when they're captive.
Teach me to be more
adaptive.
Ah...
Green Finch, and Linnet Bird,
nightingale, blackbird,
teach me how to sing.
If I cannot fly...
Let me sing.

I don't know if that is too long though.

Emma is an extremely proper young lady, as opposed to Lucy, so dress very well, hold your head up, put your hair up, and have excellent posture. Also use a British accent in the song. If you are afraid the song is too long, cut it where you think you can.

Grab you sheet music, count the vertical lines where the notes are, each line is a measure, you probably can sing 16 bars, that is pretty much the standard for auditions, Emma is very optimistic and hopeful, she is also willful and desperate to be seen for who she is, she has her own mind, be careful if you watch the dvd of the broadway production the girl who played her in my opinion was too strident in her delivery and came across as a little mean spirited, in my opinion she is not mean, she should embody everything a good man would want to marry. She needs to be likeable, the one the audience sympathizes with, don't let lucy steal the show this is the mistake I see many Emmas make, this a dual female lead show! Good luck!
