Position:Home>Theater & Acting> In what scene does the Persian first appear in the play, "Phantom of the Op

Question:Sadly, the Persian never appears in the play. His character is (as far as I remember) only present in the original book by Gaston Leroux, and any books or films based off of the Leroux canon.
In the musical, only a nod is given to the Phantom ever being in Persia. This is when Madame Giry says that Erik (The Phantom) was once an architect for the Shah in Persia.
In the 1925 movie the Persian was replaced by Inspector Ledoux, and the same character is used in the musical "Phantom" by Maury Yeston and Arthur Kopit.

The Persian does not appear in the play at all! He's only in Gaston Leroux's book and Susan Kay's and i'm sure some other remakes but never in the play. Raoul finds his own way to Erik's dungeon and Erik has no friends at all since the Persian does not exist in that version...
