Question Home

Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Plan to become an actress when an adult and not a child?

Question:Is there a way you could do this without having childhood experience?
Also, will having a BFA really help an acting career?
Is that something casting people look at? Does that give you an advantage?
Good jobs to do while acting besides waitressing?
What are the real odds of becoming a working actress?
If you are already in NY but want to do movies and tv shows more than stage should you move to LA?

Thanks so much in advance!

What steps do you recommend doing outside of highschool?
Taking dance lessons and piano lessons as a child will help you to get roles?
If you know more than 1 language do you get an advantage?
Should you join a union or get an agent first?

Yes, I know I posted this before but the question didn't sound right., Sorry if I offended.

Yes you can become a successful actor without having any childhood acting experience. There are plenty of working actors who were not child stars.

You should get some formal acting training, especially if you have no experience. You don't have to get a BFA, but there is so much to learn about the craft of acting. I would recommend going to college. You will learn so much about yourself as well as your art. Becoming an actor is not, "I'm dramatic.............so I should be an actor or I'm really pretty so my face should be in the movies." There are skills that should be developed. I don't know what casting directors look for, but if you want to be respected as an actor and not just another cute girl, with a big smile and an even bigger heart, take some classes. It will make you a better actor.

The odds of becoming a working actress are good, the odds of becoming a superstar are very slim. Make sure you are aware of what your true objective is, if your dream is to become the next Julia Roberts you may be disappointed, if you want to be the actress who plays her friend in her movies you may be pleasantly surprised at how well you do.

Best of Luck!

Yes, you can become an actor without any childhood experience. All you have to do is get experience now!

You can but I'm just saying that it's way easier if you had childhood experience and you started young because you know the business and have been around it.

Yes, just start studying now unless you're a natural.
It will.
It really depends sometimes you can be just perfect and they'll take you without one.
While acting you could take random stage jobs like lighting for a theatre production pays real nice- you'd have to be pretty knowledgeable about the stage first though.
Take a look around for jobs maybe use your acting talent for something like taking care of kids and stuff.

The odds are pretty good for becoming a working actress you just have to get aquainted with the right people.

It really depends on the job range, right now i'd say LA

Steps:
1. Participate in every play you can by making the setup and lighting etc.
2. Look around for auditions
3. If there is a thespian troop nearbye - join that it looks good on your resume

Dance lessons may depending on the roles. Piano lessons not so much but could get you scholarships

Yes, because you can get voice over parts and interesting and exciting parts

I'd get with an agent first- unions are hard to get back into once your out.

GOOD LUCK! ;)
