Question:I'm in choir right now but it being such a large group I don't feel like I get much personal attention, People tell me that I have a really good tone, but I feel like my range doesn't reach high enough. I'm a pretty low bass and hit notes around 2 octaves below middle C but I can't hit middle c or above without it sounding really pathetic. Is there anything I can do to increase my range??

In order to add to your range, breathe very well and use your diaphragm to push the notes out. Do scales when you practice on your own and start in your comfortable range. Each time you complete a scale, go back and start again a half step higher. As you go, you will sing up the octave and back down while moving to higher notes each time. Use your diaphragm and support your voice so you don't go flat and just let the notes come out. Don't let it get too loud, control the amount of air you use and the force you put behind the notes as you sing them. By all means, relax your vocal chords too, cuz they need less tension for higher notes. Your vocal chords stretch to make the notes and they need to be thinner and tighter to get higher.
On another thought, choirs always need men who can sing the deep and resonant bass notes. If you can go 2 octaves below middle C you've got a treasure in your voice. A good basso profundo is valuable to a conductor. I'd think about that if I were you. Best of luck, man. Rob R

Not exactly, I have similar problems and I'm a girl alto, it's really frustrating. You really need to just keep practicing and practicing. Make sure when you audition you just had a lot of water, and you're extremely warmed up, it helps loads...
