Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What would be the ideal musical instrument for 6 year old to learn?

Question:I think piano is the best starting place. They will learn how to read music and if they love it then you can start another instrument when they are a bit older and know more about the choices.

You may be able to find a place where your child can practice without having to buy a piano. If not, keyboards are a fairly inexpensive way to get music started in your home!

Good luck!

guitar, violin, piano

Ukulele or a recorder nice small simple instruments to give you the basics of reading music

iv been told that the piano is the best way to start learning music. i used to play it and now ive learned to play drums and the guitar.

accordeon, it's a great instrument

The one that he/she wants to play and can physically wrangle. Any instrument will teach the fundamentals of music and is a good start but if they don't enjoy it... they won't stay with it. And if they can't physically manage the instrument, it just becomes frustrating. As much as I love piano, I just don't have the hands for it, but clarinet, oboe, flute, recorder, bassoon.. all good. I've played them all over the years. And I've just taken up the drums . . . at age 50. I'm driving my mother crazy. *smirk* I have an urge for a set of bongos...

Don't invest a ton of cash up front. We rented instruments for me and there was an option to switch instruments witout penalty within 3 months which we used. I started on flute. I loved the instrument but in a marching band I felt useless. (Flutes aren't useless but you get my drift.) So I was able to switch to clarinet without any financial penalty. It's a learning experience for the kid and you need the flexibility for them to find what works for them.

The air guitar
