Sir Edward Ramsay is a non-singing role in the musical "The King and I." Although I do believe he does some waltzing in the movie version. He has been sent to Siam to report back to the English crown on unpleasant rumours about the barbarity of the Siamese people and their king. . . and the chance of opening trade relations. He's in 2 or 3 scenes, although the large reception is his biggest scene with dialogue with the leads in the show. He is an older man. A military man and you probably get to wear a British naval offcer's uniform.

You can read the general plot outline for the show at theatrehistory.com

If you haven't performed with this group before, this would be a great first role to try out for.

Many smaller theatres double up on cast. You could also double as one of the adult males of the Siamese court or a guard.

He has a very small role and is only present when the British Ambassador and his party visits Siam to meet the King and visit with Anna Leonowens. To my recollection he has only a few lines. I don't know how good you are or how old you are but I would try for someone a bit larger and part of the Siamese court.

Perhaps reading the play would be helpful in situations like this. Often times a video or DVD is available with a filmed version of the musical. You might try one of these options.

Just go tryout for the show. Don't worry about which part, let the director to do that.
