No.

First--actors don't get started "in Hollywood", they take work wherever they can get it. They have a suitcase ready in case there's a job in Topeka or Wilkes-Barre. Do good work in the regionals and Hollywood could be a goal.

Second--actors today need skills. At your age, your best bet might be to enter a bachelor of fine arts program in theatre at a major university, where your skills and knowledge of show biz will be brought up to speed. Might be tough to get into a top program, tho', unless you already have some decent skills and a record of amateur experience.

If college is not a possibility, then you need to find as many professional-level lessons/workshops/seminars in acting, voice, and movement as you can afford. Meanwhile, start getting out and auditioning for amateur productions. You need experience, and you need to build a network of contacts of actors and directors--even amateur ones.

Eventually, you will find your way to one of the few professional auditions that are open to anyone--most professional auditions are open only to union members. After you fail at perhaps 100 of those open auditions, maybe you get a paying role. Then you are ready to seriously consider joining Actors' Equity, SAG, or AFTRA, at which point you'll be able to get into the closed auditions and you'll also be ready to seriously consider signing on with an agent.

That's the process. Luck with it to you!

James Gandolfini started in his 30s I believe.

It's a matter of talent and drive.

Never, 23 is young. If you are an actor and believe you have got what it takes, well do it. DO IT.

I hope not! I'm 32 and just auditioned for my first part. And to make it worse, it's a musical!

I hope you do great with your acting!

No, 23 is still plenty young. Go for for it!

It is never too late to get into anything you have a passion for.

Many actors and actresses have started later in life and had moderately successful careers.

A couple of my favorites not only started later in life, but also went through some seriously rough times before they became famous.

Whoopi Goldberg was a welfare mother when she started doing stand up comedy. Her first acting role was in 1981, at the time she was 26 years old.

Tim Allen got his notice in 1989 at the age of 36. Before he got his break as an actor he had served a served 28 month sentence for possession of cocaine. Proof positive that even a criminal pastdoesn't hold ya down if ya don't let it.

No

Go register with Central Casting, provided you have a car and a disposable job because they don't like being turned down anymore than you do.

You show up at the set at 6 pm and stay there til 6 am and collect you $120 and don't see another job for 3 weeks.

You get a speaking role, find $2,500 real fast for your SAG card or don't do another speaking role!

You become SAG, kiss your $120 14 hour non union Extra jobs GOODBYE, can't do them anymore, have to be one of the 12 SAG extras making twice that or nothing!

no way. you're still a spring chicken lol

No, but you had better be good. There is almost no way to get into acting in LA, it is better to get established elsewhere and then go there when they know you. Read my profile and write me at my aol address for more info.
