OK, so her and Elfie's teacher, Dr. Dillamond, is a goat and he can't pronounce the "ga" in Galinda. Now, during their time at Shiz the Wizard is passing all these law against animals (animals can talk and hold job positions). Slowly, these laws are turning the animals back into their previous state (like our animals). Elffie is totally against this and is very radical in protecting animals (that's why she released the lion from the cage).

So, later on in the play Dr. Dillamond is taken away by officers for no apparent charge. After this has happened Elffi, Fiyero , and GAlinda are really upset.

So, in honor of Dr. Dillamond who could not say the "Ga" in Galinda, she changed her name to Glinda (it was the only thing she could think of to do because Elffie came up with some political thing she could do :P )

she changes her name because that is what Dr. Dilmond *sp calls her and she tries to impress Fiaryo and seem concerned when he is taken away for being an animal

She changed her name because she thought it would be good for helping her friend elphaba. Dr. dilamond was being taken away and everyone said they were going to do something so since Galinda was the only one who did not say anything, she said she will change her name to Glinda.

she changes it to Glinda because after Dr. Dillamond is taken away she changes it to impress Fieyro to what Dr. Dillamond called her hents Glinda then in the very end calls herself Glinda the Good like in the wizard of oz
you should go see it!!! it is AMAZING!!!! i've seen it like 7 times with diff. casts and they are all WONDERFUL but my fav was idina menzel and kristin chenoweth
