Question Home

Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I have auditioned for a play and have now been asked to play another piece for M

Question:I think that I have got the first part and don't really want to audition for the second but I know that two people didn't turn up to their auditions which means that they are two short for the play so may need to do some doubling. I also won't be able to commit all the time needed for the second (bigger) character that I have been asked to prepare.

I wonder if anyone has any good suggestions as to how I could explain to the director that I won't be able to audition/prepare for the second part (by Monday) and yet still not lose my chance of getting the role that I originally wanted.

It sounds to me as if you really do not want the larger part and are happy with the first role you auditioned for. The first thing I would confirm is that this second audition is in fact for a second role and not that they want to cast you in this role and not the other one.

If it is simply a case of them wanting you to play two roles I would suggest you speak to the director and tell them that you are very excited about the play and are equally excited about possibly playing (insert name of character) and while you appreciate their considering you for this second role your current schedule would make it difficult for you to be able to play both roles at 100% and you want to be able to give (again insert name of character) your all and make it as good as possible. And then perhaps inform them that you will make a commitment to trying to round up other people to audition and then do so.

They will appreciate your honesty and commitment to the
show . My guess is if they are short on people auditioning you have a very good chance of not losing the original role.

Good luck.

ask them about whether or not you will be allowed to audition the day after because you can't make it on Monday. I'm sure you'll be able to :]

good luck x

Well: If you are the knid of person who likes to be the main person then you should go for the bigger part. If you don't realy like the spotlight then deffenitly do the small part. and what ever you do, DON'T DO TWO DIFFERENT ROLES!!!

As a director I appreciate honesty, just tell him/her what you told us.
