Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Should I dress in character for an open casting for a semi main character?

Question:there is an open casting call for a character that would normally be covered up quite a bit for the role and was wondering if I should dress as this character since I will be auditioning for the specific part and not as an extra?

If it means showing up in an obvious costume, NO. Yet there are ways to dress appropriately that will allow the casting directors to picture you as the character.

For instance, a nice jacket for a professional type character.

A more dressed-down youthful look (maybe a sweater) for a student character.

Do not show up with props (like a stethoscope for a nurse role) or anything cheesy.

Plus, you never know when the director will ask you to read for another role. Leave something to the imagination.

sure

I think you shouldn't, but to an extent, yes. Dress kind of in character, but not so much to make it obvious you are trying to. like if the character you want to be is preppy, wear a skirt and a nice shirt. if its a tomboy, wear dark, slightly baggy clothes, etc. Just try not to make it too obvious
