The first thing you need to do is find the rhythm of your character. Maintain that rhythm while speaking each word. Do not run words together. Not - Goomorninhowareyoutday? It is - Good morning (pause) How are you today? If you concentrate on the consonants particularly the final consonants, the vowels will take care of themselves. Speak to the back of the house allowing your voice to resonate in your chest. Never speak facing up stage. Reason being that your audience, though unaware of the fact, is reading your lips. To eliminate or at least minimize babbling, slow down and compose your thoughts before you speak. I hope this helps. Creating a character and playing to a crowd is a very rewarding experience. Good luck and God speed.
