Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Should I go see Sweeny Todd, or is it a renter?

Question:Speaking as someone who has seen it four times, I would say go, but only if it's the kind of thing you already had the inclination to see.
If you're a Johnny Depp fan, go for the fan girl gasms at his fantastic emptiness, presence, and voice.
If you're a Helena Bonham Carter fan, go because she brings something to the character that can make you feel with the emotions she feels, and a comedic presence that's believeable.
If you're an Alan Rickman fan, go because it's the villain you've seen him place before, only with new quirks, and his singing voice that those who haven't seen Truly Madly and Help I'm a Fish have missed out on.
If you're a Burton fan, you need to go, as it is everything you would expect from Burton and more. If you're a musical fan, it isn't a show to be missed just because they turned a few numbers to script.
If you like the original show, go because it gives you a closeness to the characters you can't get from fifty feet away from the pit.
If you like old horror movies, go because Burton made this in a tribute fashion, the colors are washed and the blood has an incredibly fake look to it (which shouldn't be a spoiler if you've seen the ads.)
I'll stop listing reasons at this point and let you draw your own conclusions, but seeing it in a theater gives it the feeling you would get seeing the full length show. But if you aren't sure, or it's a money issue, you may be able to find a budget theater playing it in a few months.

Go see it.
I saw it and I loved it!!!

see it
its awesome

Loved it. Everything was very well done. The only thing I didn't like was the kid that played Antony, he looked like a 13 year old girl. ew.

I heard it was fantastic and Johnny Depp was a good singer which surprised some people. If you don't mind a lot of blood then go see it. One of my friends saw it but said that they had their hands over their eyes for most of it because it was so gruesome. If you are not a great fan of excessive blood then I say wait to rent it because then you can fast-forward those parts (which I heard happen very frequently). I really want to see it so I say go, why not? Have fun! :)

It was amaing! i vote go and see it.

Well, it all depends. I wouldn't personally, but if you are a huge fan of Johnny Depp and haven't a clue about the musical then see it in the theatre. If you are a huge fan of the show and expect Johnny Depp to suck, then rent it, lol

Oh, and I agree about the Anthony kid. WTF? He scared me, lol
