Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How should I portray Sweeney Todd in my talent show?

Question:I am accompanying a friend from class as she sings "The Worst Pies in London" from Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street in my school talent show tomorrow night. Obviously, I wouldn't be a very good Mrs. Lovett ^^ so I will be Sweeney Todd. I know that Sweeney has no lines in the song, but I still want to give a good performance based on my expressions and body movement, regardless if I'm important to the act or not.

What are some pointers that could help me out? Also, what are some good videos on YouTube I can watch of the performance to give me ideas? So far, I'm basing my performance on George Hearn's portrayal of Sweeney.

Thanks!

Well, he's literally eating the worst pies in London and he only continues to try and eat them to be kind to her. He'd look like he has sudden indegestions... Also, unless you're sutting it out you do have lines in the middle of the song. The reason he sticks it out is probably to get around to asking her about his old living quarters being available.
TODD: Isn't that a room up there over the shop? If times are so hard, why don't you rent it out? That should bring in something.

He also does have a few short lines in addition to that. http://libretto.musicals.ru/text.php?tex...

I wouldn't base my performance on anyone else's. Do your own, it's much more satisfying.

have fun!

Just react to what she is singing about at the time... take a bite when you are supposed to, act revolted by the taste, drink some ale... that sort of stuff.
