The very best book on acting (besides my own--see my profile) is Acting for the Camera by Tony Barr. No nonsense, no crap, just what an actor needs to be able to do on stage or before the camera. Forget Stanislavski and The Method, they are out-of-date and not worth the agony. No
Acting Please is interesting, as it sets the tone for non-method acting.

I don't know about any books, but it is much better to just take a few college/highschool theatre classes because you have the whole hands-on learning thing going on, and they can actually tell you what you are doing wrong.

There are the two classic books of Stanislavski, An Actor Prepairs and Building a Character

One of my acting teachers used Joseph Chaukins' book on improvisational and experimental theater that included scripts for the plays by Megan Terry.

Respect for Acting by Uta Hagen

'On Method Acting' by Edward Dwight Easty

'No Acting Please' by Eric Morris & Joan Hotchkis
