Sopranos have the traditional uke sound you hear more often. Since they are smaller, they have a brighter, more trebly punchy sound, and the fretboards are smaller.

The next size up is the "Concert," which might be a good alternative for you?

Going up in size...soprano, concert, tenor, and finally baritone ukes. The baritones are tuned exactly like the first 4 strings of a guitar, and do not have that higher octave 1st string, which is generally associated with the traditional uke sound.

The difference is in their size. Tenor ukuleles are bigger.

Both are tuned the same.

Tenor ukuleles tend to be louder, more bass-y and have a fuller sound (closer to a guitar). Sopranos are more punchy, more treble-y and have that distinctive ukulele sound.

I wouldn't say either is better, just different.
