Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What makes a good actor/actress on the movie screen?

Question:I'm 15 years old and for all my life I have wanted to be an actor. I am now auditioning for the national youth theatre in a few weeks, after that I will seek an agent. Is this the right thing to do? What tips do you have for me? What makes an actor/actress great?

Thanks for all your answers!

Hey, If this is somthing you want to acheive and make a living out of when you are older, then go for it man. What makes a good actor is one that reads more about the character they are portraying. And you could add some stuff you feel the character would fit better to. Many actors do this all the time. Some tips I have for you are is is you do get a role, and you dont like the role you play, play it the way you think it should be played. And hopefully in a few years or whenever i see you in a movie or whatever.

Good luck and I hope the audition goes very well and you get it.

I think you should give it a try. Some advice: continue your studies in another area in case acting doesn't work out for you. A good actor is someone who makes a character believable. The farther you go from yourself, the better.

i think what makes an actor or actress good is the ability to play many completely different parts and still seem like they naturally fit the part i think johhny depp is good like that but especially keira knightly if u saw her in pirates of the carribean and then in domino she plays two completely oposite parts n she does a great job in both shes much hotter in domino tho but thats not the point

Do whatever you want. Life is short. You'll never know till you try. You have all the life ahead of you to try out things. If this doesn't turn out the way you expect, then try something else.

A good actor is someone who not only acts and say lines, he is someone who listens and thinks. By listening to your co-stars you are not only acting your part but re-acting to theirs. Do some thinking. Give the character you are playing a life, a history. Only with a history, you will know why the character reacts in the way he does. Without a history, your character will just be the as deep (or as surface) as the lines written on your script.

believe in urself man, u can do it!

i think that a good actor/actress must feel the pain of their characters. and forget about themselves, forget how is their hands moving or something or how they will appear in the eyes of others.
i mean, BE the character, lose yourself for a while to be that character and if the character suffers, feel their pain as if it was your own, if its happy, feel its happiness as it was your own.

You have to go with your gut instinct. If this is something you really want to do then go for it.

Be confident, but not cocky. Look the directors in the face when you are introducing yourself and the piece/pieces you are doing. Then pick a focal point in the back of the space to perform your monologue. Know who you are speaking to in the monologue and know the back story of the character and the play.

In order to become a great actor/actress you have to be able to embody the character you are playing. You have to be able to listen to what is being said and to what you are saying in character. If you believe that you are the character while you are performing it then others will believe as well. Acting is reacting.

Best of luck!

Well they almost have it. Good actors do not act (pretend), they react (have honest emotional responses to the stimuli of the scene-). Without seeing your resume and knowing what you look line, it is hard to know if you should seek an agent. As a minor you will have to have your parents or guardian get you an agent.
