Question:I am applying as a transfer student to some Acting and Musical Theater programs.

I just did my Musical Theater audition yesterday at UCLA and have my Acting auditions for CalArts and NYU next month.

My question is: For CalArts and NYU, if you've gone through the auditioning process, do you have any tips? Suggestions?

When actor Jerry Doyle walked into the Babylon 5 auditions and they asked what role he was auditioning for he said:

The one I'm going to get.

That's the attitude you need to have.

Sean Connery, Meryl Streep and Denzel Washington are up for the same part as you, you have to go in with the idea you're blowing the out of the water.

If you go in not knowing what a monologue is, how to do a reading, how to talk naturally, you face problems.

Understand any of those three I mentioned above could do a cold audition on demand. You stick sides in their face and say go up there and do the part, they'd do it and they'd be great at it!

So, what about you?

My friend who went to Julliard gave me this advice: find a teacher you like and cann get along with. Then create a working realationship with them. and...boom, you're in :)

Auditioning for a college program is not different from auditioning for a show. Be ready to show 'em what goods you bring to the stage, keep a positive attitude, if they criticize you then take it generously because that means they think you are worth the effort.
