Position:Home>Theater & Acting> The School Play? Any Acting Tips?

Question:Hey!
I have signed of for the school play, I have gotten my monolog and everything. I just wondered if there where some actors or people with experience out there, who could give me some good tips to have a better chance on the audition.

Thanks! =)

go all out... balls to the wall... if you hold back anything you will regret it. Plus directors know its better that someone is over the top because its easier to bring people down then it is to work them up.

Whenever you get a free moment do your monologue, just say it to yourself over and over and keep a copy with you all the time, just for reference.

smile. appear as welcoming and comfortable as you can when when you walk in, and say hello to the casting people, small talk is ok, maybe comment on how nervous everyone looks outside of the audition space... I like to walk in with my arms wide out and laugh a bit, let them know i love to be there... works most of the time...

and have fun with it, don't stress out, just relax and remember that even if you don't get a part it's not the end of the world...

don't be yourself, instead be the person you are trying out for! who you are onstage is not the same as who you are offstage. make the part your own. who cares if someone sees you acting like an idiot? becuase thye arent seeing you, they are seeing ___ or whoever you are playing as. keep your characters body language, words, movements, and ideas in your mind.

If you know what you get to read before hand - read it several times over, and read it out loud and prepare. Prepare for inflection, facial movements. Understand the piece you are presenting. You don't have to memorize, but if you are from a bigger school, it may be best to do so.

Treat it like a job interview - be clean and neat -- and polite.

Speak clearly and project - but not loudly. Practice some deep breathing exercises before you go on.

If there is time, speak to the drama teachers / director prior to the session. They can give you great tips, and won't count it against you. They WANT to see you succeed (drama teachers are the BEST)
Good Luck

prepare yourself know you monologue backwasrds and forwards. know your pieces so you could can do it without or with little looking at your paper. don't let it show if you are nervous stay calm and channel your nerves into your acting. drink room temp. water beforehand (at least a day) to keep your vocal chords moist and ready to go
break a leg

1) know the material like tha back of your hand
2) think about tha context of the monologue, who would you be telling this to? if you would be telling a parent imagine yourself saying that to yur mom or dad, if you would be telling it to a friend, whn your reading to the director in the audition just pretend your telling it to your friend
3) give it all you have, if you hold back you may not get the part, give it all you have got and youll be great

GOOD LUCK

1. Practice, practice, practice!
2. Try to memorize the lines before they tell you. Months before the show, many schools don't allow you to use the script anymore.
3. Stay calm at all times.
4. If you are singing, don't eat dairy products before the audition. It hurts your vocal cords, and you do not sound your best. I learned this in 2nd grade, so it is a basic rule.
5. Keep going, even if you mess up. No one will make a big deal about it unless you do. They might not even notice!

Good luck! I hope you get the part!
