Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Les Mis question, what's your opinion?

Question:After seeing the show I have a question, was there some part of you, even though Marius was in love with Cosette, that maybe Marius should have fallen for éponine? I know it shouldn't mind at all, the show in itself was amazing, but still, if he fell in love with her and they ended up together, I'd like the show a lot more, I can't help but to feel sad about éponine. I don't know, I'm just wondering if theres anyone else out there who agrees.

I get what you're saying. I personally feel the same way. Eponine dying was just another theme of the show, it is called The Miserable for a reason. Eponine's death though helps to lead to a more passionate fight in the barricade, as they say in the show. I personally enjoyed Eponine's character more than Cosette and I felt that Marius was blind not to see what was right there the entire time, but A little Fall of Rain was a very good ending for Eponine and I believe then, Marius realized how she felt and what she was longing for.

I definetely see what you're saying. But I think Eponine's role is supposed to add to the theme of sacrifice in the show. Eponine's a bully, and yet she unhesitatingly gives her life for someone she loves who could never love her back. That's a much more powerful message, I think.

Yes, after seeing the show I felt exactly the same way. Eponine is one of those characters that you fall in love with, and it makes it so much harder for the audience to bear after her death. At the end of the show, however, she and Fantine (sp?) come out and are at peace with Valjean and all of the fighters in the french revolution. Even though you wish it could have been the other way, you know she died in his arms and she's at peace with the people she knows and loves.

Yes, I don't care for the character of Cosette.

its so ironic that you are asking that, because my high school is doing Les Mis right now, and i am Marius! Its crazy, i feel like one of the nights of the show i just wanna say ahhh screw cosette and just walk off stage with Eponine, or like take the bullet for her or something..
