Question:I am in my teens. I'm a singer and an actress, but I really want to branch out into the art and get some experience. At my age, I find it very hard to take a dance class because most dancers my age have been dancing since they were five. I don't have much flexibility but I can build it up over time, and I have potential but I am also very untrained and raw.

The dance classes I have tried in the past have not worked out too well for me. Dancers, what's your best advice?

Thanks!

I had the same problem and I just went to the library and rented some tapes on dancing. I studied everything and practice a lot. then practice in a mirror to try to look more graceful and natural, get all the kinks out. then go back to a dance class and it wont be so odd telling them you have never done it before cuz you will look like a pro! and dont worry so much, its hard at first but everyone is ther to help you. In my dance class they were all pros and I felt like I was always left behind. But it got so much better after practice.

any tapes can help when you find whats right for you. I learned a lot from the extras Happy Feet and my friends think ifs cool that I can do beginner tap now!
good luck!

Learn Tai Chi................that will help

yeah train more with a lovely ladyyyyyy .

It sounds as though you need to hire a dance expert or
private dance teacher to put you through the paces to learn
quickly and adequately. You will have to put out some cash,
but at this stage of age , you don't have much choice. Most
musical and drama films or stage want the person to have
knowledge in singing, dancing, and acting. This does not
leave you a whole lot of choice or decisions.

You are going to have to start now and get past the idea of being a beginner in a class full of younger kids. I danced for 1 year in the 4th grade and then allowed kids to tease me mercilessly until I dropped out. But when I got cast in musicals in high school, I had more dancing experience than most of the guys and some of the girls, and if I wanted to pursue this career, it meant getting into dance classes with some serious intent and dealing with the fact that there might be younger dancers in there than me

You will discover that this happens a lot in life with people going back to college after being out for a while and things like that. Just get over it and go and soon you'll be in classes with your peers
