It is quite simple. To do a British accent first try to make it sound like you are over pronouncing the words. Then depending on the age of the character there are several other ways to gain the effect. Pronounce your t's. the English are not lazy with their letters. Next you could pronounce u's as if there is a y in from of it, Dyuty. Enunciate well. People sometimes describe the British accent as "proper" because it sounds so clean and crisp. When speaking, enunciate each consonant clearly, especially those on the end. For example, instead of saying "I wan it" place special emphasis on those "t" sounds. Leave out the "r." British people pronounce the "r" if it is in the middle of a word, but not if it lands somewhere toward the end. Hence, "car" becomes "cah" and "park" becomes "pahk," but remember to pronounce "promise" and "borrow" almost as you would normally. This should help you regain your lost accent

I like Stephen's answer, but I could suggest one other way and that is to get yourself around people from home. You will pick up the way you used to speak as though you never stopped. It's funny how that happens; you may not even notice you're doing it right away. Best of luck to you. Break a leg! Rob R
