Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I'm a teen and I want to be an actor! Everyone says it, I MEAN IT! Listen...

Question:I've been struggling with becoming an actor alot. I search online everyday to what i can do to help but i always end up with nothing. I am hoping this question gets me somewhere. When I was little and i found out i was moving from new york i thought there was no way to become an actor but i moved to Miramar, Florida which is right next to Miami. I'm sorry for mentioning my life story but i am obsessed with acting! Everytime I watch DisneyChannel my heart practically melts with the idea of acting. I know it'll be hard to do and i know i have to hang in there for my big break. But "anything worth having is worth fighting for." I see tons of questions on yahoo answers asking about acting but i don't want to be compared to them. I know i can do this and i've tried but i haven't found any community theatres and my school has no plays. I will remember any and everyone who helps me with this, i know i can be great but please someone guide me.........................................

Okay, well first off, and you're not going to want to hear this, is you're young. I think almost every kid/teen goes through a dreaming stage of becoming an actor/actress or a singer, etc. I wanted it really badly when I was 8-10 years old. My mom crushed my dreams with a plate of reality with statistics, and such. Because in reality, a person has practically no chance of going anywhere with it.

That being said, I am not telling you not to chase your dreams. I think that my mom should have given me a chance to see if it was for me, helped me out a little.

So what you need to do is this:

Here's a link to Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/Miramar area performing arts programs/after school centers, etc. where you can bring one of your parents over to look at online and decide if there's one for you.

Let your parents know that you really, really are interested in acting. Tell them that if you could get in a theatre program or acting class, you could get a better chance to see if this is really something for you.

And if it is, that's what you do. You can ask professionals at those programs where to go from there, seeking auditions and such.

You're going to need commitment, experience, and a whole lot of talent. Because in the business of stage and screen acting, if you're not the best, you're not going anywhere. Even the best people struggle and don't succeed most of the time.

So go for what you can, and if it really turns into something you are great at and you love, then keep trying, and hopefully one day you can be inspiring kids and teens like yourself to be an actor.

Good luck,
Christina

i think you should stay in school and practice that grammar.

Stay in school. Do a good job!

I don't know much about acting, and I don't know if you've been here already or not, but try this site and good luck.

look in local newspapers, look up acting schools in your area. how old are you? there are acting high schools, and if its something you are this into like you say you are you should be willing to spend money to get into those schools.

idk florida all that well but how far away is orlando? you can apply for a job there as a disney character. maybe one that does plays or whatever.

Well you need to have some experiance. Join up with an agency that does tv extras and commercials, The theater, if there are any courses around your area that focus on acting do it! Not many people get it big in this indusrty but that is where you should start out. preferably sooner then later.

take right classes like drama and go on to college with it but have to start out with small things like stand ins and extras move up if have the talent you have let your name be known

This is unethical and might be unlikely but: set up a group with friends (or possibly by yourself), make videos, good ones, most probably dramas or comedies and post it on youtube.com or digg.com... you might get spotted.. Or it might just happen one day.. Hayden Panettiere was spotted while she was 'frontin' for some guys one random day... That just might happen to you. I'm also aiming to become an actor =]

I live right next to you. On Miami's craigslist there are often job listings for actors. I know that the Coral Springs Theater has camps and classes for actors who want to be in plays. Also, this is south Florida, there are movies shot here all the time!! Read the free magazines that have classified listings of casting calls. If you really want it, you will find it. Then all you have to do is audition!! I cannot remember the name of the magazine that has the classifieds for casting calls, but it is a free one.

just walk around malls, theres always people there who want people for commercials. be loud, do funny things, impress. since i was young i was naturally loud and i love joking around. i was standing in line with my dad and grandpa and i was being funny and loud, all of a sudden this lady comes up to us and gives us her card and says she wants me to go to a commercial audition =D unfortunately, we were just in LA for the day and were going back home the next day(not tourists, we used to live there and go back like weekly to visit family) so i couldnt go, but i bet if i did i would be on a magazine cover right now =D lol. probably not, but you might see me on some catchy commercial haha. good luck!

It does take a while to get to the acting business. I know this wont help I'll try.You should suggest plays at your school, and if that doesn't work out then I guess you should do a lot of research on the Internet and see if you can send audition tapes to people.

Join an acting agency

There is the New World School of Arts high school

Right now there's no production going one because of the lovely writer's strike and if they don't resolve by Mid Feb there won't be production until next season.

That'll give you time to save up your $2,500 for a union card if they actually pick you (can't work without it, don't get paid til after you work) and you need a parent full time with transporatation.

And be ready to bring focus to your family.

As of today's press the honeymoon is over for Miley, she's now being accused of using a body double on stage and some now say she's lip syncing.

They will cover her wedding, messy divorce, boy friends (dozens of them) and parenting problems and she'll always be referred to as the Former Disney Kid.

Don't think Britney Spears or Paris can't happen to you.

25% of show biz are heavy drug users, 40% are homosexual, 60% are boozers and 9 out of 10 marriages don't last.

You're out of work 6 to 18 months a year (but you still have that $700 Mercedes payment and $10,000 mortgage for the house in Malibu) and 85% of the actors out there never make more than $10,000 a year.

That's what a kid in high school makes parttime at K Mart.
