Position:Home>Theater & Acting> The Circus Ringmaster?

Question:Ok, so for the rally at our school we chose the theme of Circus and they want me to be the Ringmaster.
Does anyone have like a video or something of how the ringmaster acts or anything their tone and what they say. I know the first couple of lines "Ladies and gentlemen blah blah blah blah."

Also, anyone know where I can get the costume...not expensive though

That definitely sounds like fun.

Ringmaster, depends on how serious you want to portray them. One of the most classical images of the Ringmaster was portrayed by Disney. Take a look at 'Dumbo' and you will see this image. You could also probably google it. Also the movie 'Big Fish' has the same classical look.

However, those images are usually a bit comical. Real Ringmasters were essentially Master's of Ceremonies or Announcers. They keep the action moving along, inform the audience of what they are about to see, keep them entertained in between, build the suspense or atmosphere in preparation for the next act. So really, my best bet for you would be to primarily focus on material and ideas that fit in with your event. Your costume will be open to interpretation at that point based upon your material.

Value-village or any second hand store would be the first place to look. Especially for returned Halloween costumes. I doubt you'll find a full Ringmasters costume, but you can throw lots of pieces together from other ones. Vests, hats, longsleeves, and pants. Even shoes.

Otherwise look for a costume rental store in your area. There's no point on buying anything but usually you can rent something for relatively cheap. Afterall your only need it for a day or two. Just be sure you go in advance to see what you're getting.

Also ask your friends. Never underestimate the possibilities of what your friends have hiding in their attic. I once ended up with an authentic Arabian robe that a friend had from their grandfather's trip to the Middle East.
