Directors are looking for three things: education, experience and any special skills they should know about. The font, text size, layout, etc doesn't really matter. But they should be able to get the basic information relatively easily.

Education: where, when, what type of degree, classes taken, specifics in terms of who you worked with.

Experience: typed out in four clear columns: role, play title, company, director (also break the list up by years)

Special skills: accents, other languages, licenses, singing range, etc.

AND ALWAYS: full name, address, contact information, union affliation, etc. at the top.

KEEP IT TO ONE PAGE - another golden rule.

This is a pretty good outline of what you would want on your res.

you don't have to put your weight tho. also you do not have to and should not put your age. They legally can not ask you for that information.

BEGINNER RESUME LOOKS LIKE THIS (mostly if you have only done a few commercials, maybe an extra role, and some theatre projects at school)

Advanced resume (mostly used for actors who have a lot of movies, commercials and tv shows and theatre projects (broadway or local plays under there belts)

this is all based on how you have been working the acting field. based entirely on acting gigs you have gotten.

Just list every role you've played, the show title, organization is was with and the year. Like this:

Tevye in FIDDLER OF THE ROOF OnStage, Inc. 1995.
or-
Chorus in OKLAHOMA! Edison HS, Toledo, OH 1996.

Also, if you did some technical work, include that as well. In short, your acting resume should tell what you did and when.

You can list advisors or teachers, directors or choreographers as references, after making sure it's ok with them to use their name. You may give names of organizations and their addresses if they have records of your participation. Just be specific so that the one getting your resume knows the scope of your involvement with acting.

List courses, classes or seminars you attended and the name of the organization running it. If you took acting lessons, either in a class or individually, list teachers and dates of classes or lessons:

1997-99 The Gielgud Drama School; Roanoke, VA
BA in Acting

or-

June-August 1998 Improv Studio Class through The Ohio State University Summer Theatre Camp
