Schools are never free (except for your school drama class, which isn't really free either, but it won't cost YOU anything). But if you want acting lessons, you can get them for a whole lot less than $6000. Some universities, community colleges, and community theatres offer youth programs. You can do a Google search for youth theatre programs in your city/county.

And models do not need lessons at all. Anyone that tells you that you need classes to learn how to become a model is lying through their teeth. Modeling is nearly 100% about the physical structure of the model. All the classes in the world won't give that to you if you don't already have it.

Real agencies do not charge money up front. Real agencies also tend to be picky about who they take on, since they only make money if they can find work for that person. They dont really train you. You kind of have to show up trained.

Anyway, here's a fact of life---people who have invested their money badly tend to get defensive when someone points out their error. She's either already aware that she's wasted a bunch of money, or she soon will be when classes are over and all she'll have to show for it are a bunch of overpriced photos of herself. Or a sales pitch to attend a cattle call in las Vegas, at her own expense, that won't get her any work either.

She's already paid the money, and trust me she ain't getting any of it back. So just let her get whatever she can out of it. But avoid that place yourself.

If they were that good, they wouldn't have to scour the malls and do cold calls to get students.

One must live in New York City and be accepted by one of the top NYC modeling agencies.

Continue to tell your friend that legitimate Modeling Agencies do NOT charge $6,000.00 to teach models how to walk.

I think it is a scam. They make their money from their classes. Tell her to look into the accreditation of the people who are actually teaching the classes. That might be a good place to start.

If you want to take acting classes I suggest looking into a Regional theatre. A lot of those have acting programs and classes available to people of all ages. The classes last for so many weeks and depending on the class and the hours it meets it could only cost about 100 or so dollars for the class. The classes are taught by professionals who know the business and the craft.

If you don't have a Regional Theatre near you then look at your local college programs. Most colleges, even Junior Colleges or Community Colleges have Theatre departments that have open programs to the public. If you are going to pay for a class at least get some type of credit for it. Taking acting from John Casablanca is not something I would put on my resume.

Type "John Casablancas" and "scam" into any good search engine and see what you find. (Make sure to spell "Casablancas" correctly.)
