Question:I got the lead role of Jo, in my schools play Little Women. She has a LOT of lines, and I know that I can handle them, but I would like some tips on memorizing lines. My mom told me to write them down, so any different tips that you have used would help.

Reading them out loud is best. I get a lot out of rehearsing with another person either from the cast, a friend or family member is great.
Writing them down can be helpful too. Just remember about cue lines!
Something that helps is to highlight in different colors. This can work two ways, either every other line in a color, or break up thoughts and ideas with different colors. This way when you are practicing you can go "I remember this line because it was a green one."
Another thing is to run your lines in your head when brushing teething getting ready for bed etc.
Congrats and Good Luck!

I read part of the line, then say it out loud (without looking at the paper) , then read the next part of the line, then say the whole thing out loud until I have the whole line memorized. Then, I do it for all the other lines. It sounds like it would take long, but it really doesnt....
:) Good luck with memorizing your lines and congrats on getting that part!

I often have to memorize lines and this is what I do to help me:
I set a timer for three minutes and read a paragraph or two over and over until the three minutes is up. Then I try to remember what I read and I write it down. After that, I repeat the process until I have everything memorized. It makes memorizing so much easier! Saying them over and over again will also help. Go over the lines with a friend and have some more fun with it!

Congrats- try practicing the lines over with your mom or other people

Repetition is the key. Just read it and say it alot. I have also heard that highlighting your lines in a bright color (yellow/orange) helps your mind remember it. There's also some who claim that walking backwards while reading/reciting lines helps.

In my opinion just pay attention during rehearsal, and the lines will come naturally.

My drama teacher always told me never to memorize lines by yourself. Though that's what I've always done. What I would do is read the play a few times over, so you know what comes next and such. Then, start from your first line, and just read it over and over again OUTLOUD! then, try covering it up after a few runs, and just continue wiht that - ALWAYS GO BACK EVERY 4 LINES - that way you know you have it memorized, and its okay to know others' lines. For the longer ones, paragraphs or monologues, I would just do the first three lines, memorize those, then do the next three, etc. untill it is completed.

I hope that helps

I GOT THE LEAD ROLE IN BEAUTY IN THE BEAST(Bell) WHEN I WAS 9 AND THERE WAS LIKE ALOT ALOT OF LINES!!!
SO IT WAS VERY PRESSURING.THIS IS WAT I DID:
it sounds crazy but i would look at the lines reapeat them then when i repeated them i would like trace my finger on a circular table going round and round and round. also ur moms right u should right it down without looking then watever u got wrong repeat(i no its a lot)54 times it always worked for me. and the pressure disappeared... GOOD LUCK!!!

have someone read through them with you. it's amazing how much easier it is to learn them with another person.

I find the best way for me to memorizing alot of lines is to put it on cassette. I usually do two ways: 1 side has the line before mine and then mine and the other side has the other line and then a blank space. while driving or sitting you can play the first side responding when appropriate and then when you feel comfortable, turn the tape over and try it that way. It helps me alot.
