It is called a reversal. It is normally found in the Reversal Scene. It is sometimes the same as a climax, but at other times it is completely different. It is when something happens to change the direction of the plot. Sometimes it is not a complete reversal in plot, but it always as to do with changing the motion of the plot.
It does the same thing as a twist in movie. It takes what the audience or characters thought was going to happen and turns it all around. Hope this helps.

Unexpected Element

According to my Theatre Teacher, this occurs after the resolution to give a final twist to the story.
goes like dis :

Introduction( Setting, Characters)
Conflict(Problem)
Climax( Point where you ask "Whats gonna happen next?!, peak of action, could also be the "twist" your talking about)
Resolution(Solves the Conflict)
Unexpected Element(Described Above)

I believe that the term she is looking for is "entanglement" or "twist" depending if she teaches in either a Shakespirian or Modern style of drama.
