Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Do you have to be of ethnic origin to audition for the lion king??

Question:The roles of Scar, Zazu, Timone, and Pumba are all usually played by white actors, but Simba, Mufasa, etc... are played by ethnic actors, also the dancers as long as you have a strong, and I mean STRONG modern back round can be any ethnicity.

I think they are all black characters?

no
thats discrimination you can be any race or origin to audition

There are a few that can be played by other than black characters. lick timon or pumba or even zazu. but all the lions and just about anyone else who show most of their body is. probably to keep it consistent

Of ethnic origin...What on earth does that mean. Explain.

You just need to be animal like

wat kind of racist question are u trying to ask or are u jus being ignorant ask them yourself

Bigot

No it doesn't matter at all what race you are, you can audition. Getting cast is a different story though.

First off, I know this is not a racist question (the OP said ETHNIC). It would like asking if you need to be British to be in My Fair Lady. Those who interpret it as racist it would seem, would be racist themselves.

I wouldn't think so, but vocally you might want to explore ethnic accents.

From casting notices I've seen, people of all ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to attend, however it seems like the leads are usually of "ethnic" origin (aka, anything but white).
Maybe the ensemble is more mixed and you just can't tell because of all the makeup and costumes.

No.

Haha, I'm pretty sure you can audition! But I've seen it twice and they have only ever picked 'ethnic' actors for the main roles. Good luck though xxx
