The trick is to stand out in a way that makes you look like you would be a god choice. the thing with open casting calls is that there are lots of people there and they all want it. but there are some people who are not serious about it and just want it for the attention. What you have to do is show the director or whoever makes the descision that you are serious about it and will give 110% effort into this show. thats what will set you apart from the rest.

The hard part of open casting calls is that there are SO MANY people and very few know exactly what is wanted from you. The key to these things is confidence. Be well assured in every manner of your appearance. Don't wear too much makeup, don't over dress. The people who are holding an open call are not looking for someone to show them what they are looking for. People who attempt to do so are often dismissed. Only 1% of all casting results in a role being changed to fit the actor. Be a clean slate for a casting director to paint a picture around. Be clear with your voice and confident with each move you make. Never hesitate. Being able to improvise is a must!

Consider that an open call is no different than any other audition except there will be potentially tons of other people auditioning. Since the casting people will need to see many people and may have limited time, respect their time limits and be courteous and polite. Don't expect personal attention or specific feedback. You may even give the audition of your life and the person who really makes the decisions is in the bathroom.

Don't sweat it -- go for the experience, do your best and LET IT GO. It's very, very difficult to find success at open calls. Often there isn't even a job available -- they may say they want an "unknown" but don't be surprised when the role is filled with a recognizable face in the end.
