there is a book for actors called "no acting please" and it basically talks about how actors cant look like they act, they have to be in the moment and actually become who they are trying to portray. In auditions, don't be afraid to make mistakes, be loud, clear and talk a bit slower than you would. Durind auditions, directors like to see you take risks, some work, some wont, but go with your impulses and for most directors they like to see a bad impulse but for you to keep going, it shows you have guts and your not afraid to try things.

I know some people who meditate before every audition and production that they do. I don't really meditate, but I do sit quietly and think about the character I'm trying to portray. Think about the way they would feel, and the way that you would feel in their situation. You do sort of "meditate" on it and then add the words. You have to "become" your character. The first step to being believable is believing yourself.

Don't act. Sounds odd, but if you're "trying" to be good, you won't be. Be committed to the character, know what you're saying, speak slower than you think you need to, and don't forget to breathe.

A bright, open personality is always great! The director wants to see people with talent, AS WELL as people that can be easy to work with. Also, school auditions I've been to, when people cold-read, they tend to read without emotion, and read as if it were a math book. Monotonous, dry and robotic. Make sure that before an audition, you practice the monologue and lines, so you get the feel of the character, and possible come up with some body movements to help you out!
