Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How do I Audition for a Role Without any Experience?

Question:I really enjoy acting and would like to audition for a role. The only problem is that I have no "real" experience. My family cannot afford acting lessons. I have been told that I am talented but I can't express my abilities because I have had no lessons. If I were to fill out a resume, is there a chance of being accepted without any experience? Also, what can count as experience besides lessons?

Well.
Experience does help! Especially for getting an agent. You will need money for this business.

BUT it is possible to get into the business with no experience because i did it!

Some things i suggest you do are.
1. Go to film festivals! theres always directors and even agents there who are looking for free actors to be in their movies. So go, and talk talk talk! Meet everyone and introduce yourself. You may feel like an idiot. But it will get you known.

2.Try talking to people at school. ask if your friends know any actors. Talk to the actors and ask what agency they're with.
Call into the agency's and ask if you could set a meeting to meet with them.

3. Don't tell them you don't have experience until you get there :p This way they can get to know you and your personality first.
Then ask if you can perform a monologue for them ;)

4.Audition for plays and theatre in your area.
This will get your name out there, and you can then get some experience. It won't cost you anything, and if you get the part you might even get paid for it!

Good Luck!

being in other plays, the best thing you can do is research the play and the role you are interested in to the fullest extent that you can, get to know the character better than you know yourself and practice in front of the mirror until you believe you are that character

Well, everyone has to have a first experience at one point. And if you're any good, of course they will accept you. Of course, since it is your first play, don't hope for a lead. You might get it but the chance is pretty small. On a resume you can also put special skills like playing and instrument or hobbies or sports. I guess that performing even something small for drama class at school is ok for experience. At least you're not someone who doesn't even know how the stage feeling is.

Hope that helps!

When filling out you resume just say that you can easily put yourself in the shoes of the character and become them. You know how to bring that quality. Or start putting on skits for you family or on youtube.
What I did was , I made a scrapbook of my little performances for my parents and family, and other pics of me acting.
