Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Could I be 1 in a Million?

Question:Acting is a hard industry to get into but I think I could make it. But when I go to auditions and stuff, is there any way to get on the good side of people? Becasue to be honest, it is literally 10% talent 10% likeableness and 80% luck when it comes to those things. I can't control luck but I can control talent and likeableness (yes i know that isn't a real word. haha.) So do you know a good way to get the casting directors and others to want to hire you by just liking you?

1. come to your auditions well prepared. know what they are looking for and bring a short monologue to recite.
2. bring your resume
3. be pleasant and polite
4. never chew gum. you know, like at the audition. directors hate that.
i hope this helps and good luck with your career!

who knows

yeah

Don't take this the wrong way, but have you heard of the "casting couch"?

Come to SC. We have the best film school in the world.

must have to know someone in the bussiness

Ask them to see the casting couch.

Confidence is key. Lack that and you lack everything.

I tend to think it's 60% likeablity and 40% luck. Talent has never been a prerequiste and Paris proves it!

If you believe in yourself anything is possible.

In fact you are one in 400 million. (Or however many people there are in this world)

Just turn your talent by 80%.

idk

I don't think so because that would be favoritism. Sorry.

Well, you don't quite know the industry and how it works. Casting is mostly by look and then by talent. You can't control talent because it is an inborn thing, but you can learn how to use it. You can learn to be the best possible personality as well, very important. Casting directors and producers are only going to hire you by your look and your talent, but if you have a rep of being a lousy person to work with they may not even consider you if you have the look and talent. Read my profile and contact me at my aol address for more info.

Likability is the word you're looking for....it is alot of luck, like you said. Being in the right place at the right time has alot to do with it,so try to be everywhere you can til you get your "lucky break". Actors may got to hundreds or thousand of auditions before it happens for them.

Yes you definitely could be. Yes being likable is extremely important.

80% luck is way off... it's more like 10% talent, 80% likeableness, and 10% luck. :)

Sorta. Be yourself.
I once read Bruce Willis auditioned for the part on "Moonlighting" like 10 times.
They wanted a tough guy.
He didnt get the part till he wore camoflauge pants and military boots to the audition.
I guess one of the casting ladys replied" I dont know about you guys, but he looks pretty f***ke dangerous to me!"
True story.

You are one in a million. Think of that when you go for auditions. You will get more jobs.

BE polite, do not rehearse saying thank you and all that. They dont want to listen to robots. Also, when your reading your monologue or whatever, dont look at their eyes directly, find a spot on the wall behind them, and pretend that spot is the character your supposed to be talking to. Lastly, be real, and be yourself.
