That depends on a couple of factors. Since I don't know your voice type or what musical you are auditioning for, here is some general advise:
1. Only sing what you are confident you can sing well.
2. Choose a song is that most similar to the style of the show. It's even better if you can pick a song that sounds like something the character you are going for would sing. (i.e. romantic ballad, comic and upbeat, bitter and vengeful, etc.)
3. Most "judges" will only allow you to sing a few moments of the song, so start from a point that really shows off your voice. Plan to do the whole song just in case they ask you to, though.

Break a leg!

i agree!!! unless your doing something a la AI don't sing a non-musical song!!! pop/rock/contemporary radio music has a different quality that doesn't translate on the stage (that's probably why Britney Spears lip-sychs her own stuff)!!! go to the library and take out the soundtrack for the show your auditioning for, listen for and pick out a song that you may like...ask the librarian if there are any other shows by the same writer or composer and listen to those for the same reasons. always have a back-up plan in case the director wants to hear more!!!! break a leg!!!

PS - Elton John co-wrote Aida and some other musical related music he's great to audition with but not the one you chose
