Question:Ok, so i'm auditioning for Miss Jones or Miss Krumholtz in my high school's production of "how to succeed in business without really trying". I'm a freshman, so i need something that will really kick butt. the song needs to be for a mezzo or a soprano, preferably the latter. oh, and from a musical.

If I remember correctly (I did this show several years ago) Miss Jones and Miss Krumholtz are older women, so you need a song that will show off a stronger more mature sound. The mezzo range has many great songs, but I think you need to do one that isn't bright and happy, as you would for Rosemary. I suggest:

"Climb Every Mountain" from SOUND OF MUSIC
"You'll Never Walk Alone" from CAROUSEL
"Love Look Away" from FLOWER DRUM SONG

These are songs sung by older women and they have tremendous impact in each of the stories they come from. Do one of these or another similar song. Sing with dark vowel sounds and be careful to sing the lyrics clearly.

Best of luck in your audition and I hope you enjoy doing HOW TO SUCCEED... it's a fun show and a really sexist look back at corporate America. The plot is outrageous and the story is ridiculous but it's meant to be silly, so I hope you succeed.

Break a leg! RobR

maybe like a song from hairspray or sumthin or from high school musical jk!

Sing 'New Rochelle" from the show
