Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What skills are needed for acting and how do the skills needed for stage and fil

Question:You need to able to convince people you are the character you are portraying (having experience in the area of the character to draw upon is valuable), and be able to take direction in how to display this character in the medium you are working in.

Stage work requires you to be able to memorize all of your lines in the production, of being able to perform in front of an audience and not let it distract you, to project your performance so that even the people in the back of the theater are able to partake of it, to do the production without a break, and to be able to repeat your performance throughout the run of the production. Depending on the budget of the production you may be required to contribute to it in other ways, such as doing another job in it.

Film and television productions are seldom shot in sequence as written in the screenplay. You must be able to do several shots of the same scene as different angles and manners in which it is performed are usually required. You must be prepared for changes in the screenplay while working and be able to adjust to the different drafts as they affect your character. You must be prepared to work on location, long hours, and whatever time of the day or night the scene calls for. You must be able to use your imagination well if you are doing a scene in which special effects will be added later. You must be prepared to place your faith in the director, since he/she knows what they are looking for concerning the totality of the final film.

Dont be yourself, thats the key. Expand yourself, you feeling nd show your emotions. Dont be shy.

    depends on the couch

For theatre productions, the actors must be very dramatic, almost to a ridiculous point. All lines must be said as to emphasize emotion, as many audience members cannot see facial expressions due to distance from the stage.

Film actors, on the other hand, must be more subtle, because they use body language to convey emotions. Lines are said less dramatically, and there is more emphasis on facial expressions because of the ability of close-ups to portray what an actor on the stage cannot to an audience member in the back of the crowd.

In order to be a good actor on either the stage or screen, one must be able to realistically portray character's emotions, in either the theatre method or the film method.

The skills needed for acting, is the skill to make anyone beleive that you are not who you really are!
    If that makes sense,
You have to be able to play another character and make people believe you are that character even thought they know you aren't.
It can take years of training for some people, and for others they are naturally gifted and can do it without classes.

The skills differ from stage and film.
Well for stage you have to not have stage fright, and be able to do the whole scene without messing up!
Aswell as having a voice that can be projected!

For Film, you have to have the skill to do close up acitng. Every face emotion will be shown on camera. Rather then a stage where sometimes you can barely make out their faces!

Well basic skills that are appreciated by agents are singing and dancing and acting through those. Agents love triple threats. Stage and film are completely different. In film you actions can be a lot less subtle than on stage. you have to show more in you facial expressions and through you eyes. On stage you always play up the character and a strong voice for singing and projecting is a MUST. When you act many people will tell you not to be yourself but this is entirely inaccurate. Sure you'll have to play parts that are different from your actual personality but it's key to try and find that character within yourself, this makes it so much more real and relatable. Also, don't fake emotions. I'm sure you've felt anger, sadness, joy, embarrassment, etc. sometime in your life. Bring that back when you need it, remember those times and put it in to your character. These are just a few things I've learned through classes and experience, good luck with everything you want to do!!
