I always try to do whatever comes most naturally to me at the beginning, if that dosen't work then my director at the time will suggest different things to try or I'll try them on my own if I'm working without a director.

In my opinion how you are going to move of speak depends entierly upon your character. For instance I would speak differently if I were playing a shy character than an obnoxious and loud one. My advice would be to just play around with the role and try dozens of different things. Don't be faraid to go out of your comfort zone!

As for how I know when a performance is going well, I can feel it instinctively. When things are going well, I find that there's an energy that gets thrown about the room and drags you and the audiance into the world you're creating onstage. If I can forget who I am and loose myself in the moment, then I know I'm doing great. That's what I love about theatre. That's magic.

I sometimes act out scenes while I'm in a car alone at a stop light so I think I can answer this as well as anyone.

One: When I act, I try to feel the emotion of the character, and think of the things I personally do when I'm feeling that emotion. For me, when I shout, I whip my hand across my chest, like I'm judo chopping an invisible board in front of me. Like "No way! Not acceptable!"

Two: For voice, again I just do what comes naturally. I'm not very good at crying, I actively try not to do it in real life. But shouting I'm quite good at. I try to make my voice as clear as possible when I shout in anger. I break it for surprise, and falsetto for any happy shouting "Whoo-hoo!"

Three: I've never performed, but I should assume whether it was good or not would lie with the audience's reaction.

1. if ur crying in real life do u put ur hands sort of on your face? or do they hang at your side shaking?
2. cry= make it softer,a nd break it would be necesary
shout= make it LOUDER
3. u know if ur performance was good (well ppl told me this after it happend to me so i'm just guessing) if u walk off stage and for a brief moment dont know where u are (happens eveyr time here, very confusing tho, not knowing where u are) and then u suddenly remember everything. ppl have told me that that is a brilliant thing and not many can be that way naturally (i am not bragging, its creepy), my best performance i think tho was a production of Wizard of Oz at school

Read Stanislavsky. :-)
