I thought it wasn't perfect, but wasn't bad either. I'm a diehard fan of the stage version of this musical, though, so I didn't expect to be completely satisfied.

Depp has a better voice than I expected for him, though not strong enough to play a character as vocally demanding as Sweeney Todd. The same for Carter... her acting was good, and her singing was decent (if a little weak), but she was no Angela Lansbury.

Alan Rickman rocked it. Creepy, sleazy, slimy, all the good stuff Judge Turpin needs to be. Perfection.

My favorites were Anthony, Johanna, and Toby. Especially Anthony. Gorgeous voice.

Mostly I was upset at some songs they cut. Sure, I understand changes need to be made to transfer most musicals to film, but why cut "The Ballad of Sweeney Todd"??? The title song of the show, come on. Lame. That disappointed me. Also, I thought the blood looked ridiculously fake and awful, but that's just me.

I saw the 2005 revival and absolutely adored it, and while this film is okay, it doesn't compare to a good stage production. When I saw the Broadway revival, I was quite literally on the edge of my seat during "Epiphany" (and several other numbers), soaking up the anger and vengeance and tension. Not so much with the film... but still, I wasn't quite as disappointed as I had expected to be. There you go.

GAYYYYYYYY!!!!!

Psychotic.

i have not seen the movie yet but holy crap i LOVE the musical.

:D DAMN THATS GOOD! lol

i think that NOONE should sing anyomore!!

i thought the ending was horrible. also it was kinda boring... and slow... and nothing as good as it was hyped up to be.

AWSOMEE!

I liked it too, but I had seen the play many years ago.

Sondheim and Burton did very well together.

Not for the faint of heart, but again, I knew the story. :)

It choked scrote, but the blood was legit

haven't seen it yet....won't see it until it releases on DVD...I refuse to pay $8.50 per ticket....but I want to see it :)

i guess it was alright

I LOVED IT!!! I loved the movie even more than the musical! I got the soundtrack right after I saw it and I haven't stopped listening to it! I'm going to see it again very soon!!

i loved that movie. acting/singing/costumes were greatt.
although it was VERY bloody and cannibal-y. haha
aw lucky; you're listening to the soundtrack. i want to buy it so badd :)

my favorite song is "epiphany" in that.

I think Depp and Carter are splendid. Burton is still a fine, if pigeon-holed director with a taste for the macabre in this, his homage to classic horror. I loved the storyline, the music, and the gore...and my oh my, what a lesson in the repercussions of a vengeful heart.

Loved it! I am going to see it in Chicago on Broadway and can't wait. Lucky you have the soundtrack! They have vanished from my area!! I love the song Johanna.

The movie? Dear God, Johnny Depp might be an amazing actor but his singing is soooo dreadful! Too nasally and not deep enough for Sweeney. Helena Bonham Carter is very breathy, but not a terrible singer. The kid who plays Toby {WHY is Toby like 10?} isn't too bad, just ok. The Jamie guy who plays Anthony sounds sickly....the Johanna is a good singer, though how Johanna has a slight Irish accent is still a mystery to me.

The musical in general? OMFG, my favourite musical along with the Phantom of the Opera!!! The 2005 revival cast is my favourite recording. I listen to it all the time!

Not as good as the musical... but still

beyond wonderful.

I wanna see it so bad!!
