I have a pair I could sell to you. I bought them new at a dance store, and have only slightly used them. Size 7, I believe..

What are Character Shoes?

Character shoes are best bought new.
I wouldn't get a used pair, because they'll already be formed in the shape of the previous owner's feet and you'll get back problems when you perform.
I haven't heard of any specific brands being better than others. A lot of times you can get your character shoes through the same place you get stage makeup.
Price ranges that I've seen are anywhere from $30-$140. But it could be more or less.
Another thing you can do if you are unsure about actual character shoes is you can get plain black jazz dance shoes. They come in male and female sizes. They're very similar to character shoes and are what I used for a long time because they last, blend in, and are far less expensive than character shoes.
Hope I helped in some way!

Try Discount Dance Supply. They sell character shoes at a slightly lower price than dance retail stores.

In the sources I have listed a direct link to the character shoes, hope this helps!

You're better off buying them new. There are two main styles Broadway flex and Manhattan flex, I prefer the Broadway flex because they bend more like a jazz shoe but if your looking to add mounts and plates for taps then Manhattan flex is better. Also when buying don't be confused with jazz pumps they are NOT the same thing. Price usually depends on quality so if you want them to last be prepared to spend in the $50-$60 range. I also recommended that you take a look at this site: www.discountdance.com
They have quality dance supplies including jazz and character shoes at a lower price then specialty dance stores. I bought both my jazz and character shoes from there and I am very happy with them. But if you do decide on a product read the customer reviews first to decide if they are a good investment and only buy in a different size of the manufacturer recommends you do.

Hope that helps
