Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Hairspray for my 4H group?

Question:We do a revue of songs from a musical each year. We were planning on Sound of Music, but im tired of the whole classic Julie Andrews thing since we did Mary Poppins last year. What songs from Hairspray do you think would be appropriate for a bunch of white kids ranging from 6-17 to sing. I'm thinking we are going to have to cut parts out of songs. Any insites or other comments are appreciated

Thank You

These songs will be good:
Good Morning Baltimore
The Nicest Kids in Town
(The Legend of) Miss Baltimore Crab
Welcome to the 60's
Big Blonde and Beautiful (reprise)
You're Timeless to Me
Cooties
You Can't Stop the Beat

How about Goodmorning Baltimator

I have the hairspray CD in front of me right now. One of the songs that is appropriate is 1.Good Morning Baltimore. It's just really challenging and a fun song. It encourages singers to hold notes for a while. The 2nd song is 2.Welcome to the 60's. It's really an entertaining song. Another one is 3.Run and Tell that. In it, he talks like that black people are just as good as white. Another is 4.I know where I've been. It's when they are walking down the street when they people cancel Negro Day. They run a protest against it. Another is 5.You can't stop the beat. They have a few bad words but you can cut those out. Lastly 6.Come so far but so far to go. It's a good medium beat song.
But remember, this movie has a lot of things that little kids don't understand. Just be careful. Maybe you could add some different words so the littler kids will get too.

I hope I helped!!!
