Position:Home>Theater & Acting> AMDA: worth my time and money?

Question:I think I really want to go to AMDA. it is only two years (and i hate school). I know i am not ready to just start auditioning and i would LOVE to study theater, but don't know where. I have heard mixed reviews about AMDA and need to know: is it fun and you learn enough to have it worth paying tons of $ for? Thanks

The school can provide you with a fairly solid start in your training with a heavy emphasis on vocal work, basic stage techniques, movement, stage combat, and scene work . Plus, you will be in LA or NY working with fellow artists. It is costly. I would recommend the NY school over LA. No one program is right for everyone, so you will have to decide for yourself. If you commit to it fully, you will leave a better performer. The classes are taught by working pros, so they are mostly helpful. The front office can be disorganized, which is the main drawback, and the only thing that makes it a "good" school instead of "excellent", in my opinion.

There cirriculum is good, their alumnis are bread and butter actors.

THe only problem I personally have is they don't award accredited BA degrees like Julliard or the Tisch School

But this is a good school and you will learn something.

I don't think so. (I don't agree with Earl on much of anything.) They are so expensive, that you could use your money to better advantage, picking and chosing a class from this studio and that and you would get better training. They also are still living on their past glories. Need help launching your career? Read my profile and contact me at my aol address for free advice.

If you're a singer, I know a magnificent voice teacher there. I've seen their workshops, and the talent level is very high. I can't tell you about what they charge compared to other places, however.
