This song is more of a belter then a sweetly song sung. Remember it was originally written by a man, Otis Redding and Aretha took it and made it a power ballad for women. Image Alanis Morissette singing "You Oughta Know" in just a high range without any umph behind it.

In order to sell this song you need to feel it in your gut. If you naturally have a high range you sing in you can relax and know that you will hit the notes you need to and instead focus on the core of the song. Try at first to not sound pretty at all when you sing it and see if you can get the message in the song across. From there little by little add in your natural singing voice but be sure to keep the depth of the song present. What makes this song work is the feeling behind it. Without that you will just be singing it high and sweetly and won't get the song across to people.
