Position:Home>Theater & Acting> What other actress was considered for the role of Dorothy in Wizard of Oz?

Question:MGM wanted Shirley Temple, but it wasn't a matter of her being too young. Fox refused to loan her out to MGM, a practice that was common between studios back in those days. Producer Mervyn Le Roy wouldn't consider Judy at first because she wasn't 'a big name' back then. OZ certainly changed all that.

When it became a smash hit, Fox tried to copy it by having Shirley do a very similar movie called THE BLUE BIRD, with a couple of members of The Three Stooges as her co-stars. Of course, it tanked at the box office.
