Is Eric Idle Jewish? Just been to see Spamalot and a Jewish ribbing song spoilt

Question:The first half was fantastic, the second half a bit flat and had a song about you can only make it in showbiz if you can find a Jewish impresario/backer which totally left me bemused and puzzled as it had nothing to do with The Holy Grail. I take it that Eric Idle is Jewish and was making some serious statement in an otherwise fun show. Not needed or funny. It's his show so he can put in what he wants but why?

I don't know if he is Jewish but I think the song was only a joke based in some reality. It is just the kind of bad taste Monty Python was famous for. Mike Nichols the director ofSpamalot is Jewish as was the historian Josephus, whose works Spamalot satirizes. Nothing in the show is meant to be at all serious, it is meant to be irreverent.
