Position:Home>Theater & Acting> SAG question?

Question:Ok. I'm not that far in my acting yet but I have built a resume and am planning to take acting classes in Febuary.

Now lets say I did commercials and met with the SAG requirements. Would I still have to pay the $2,000 fee? and when would be the good time to get one because I rushed with my AEA card and I never even got to use it.

THANKS!!

You are what is termed SAG eligiable and you often keep that status for 1 year after becoming eligable.

This means you can continue doing non-union work and if you get an union offer you can then buy your card, but if you wait too long it expires and you have to become eligible again by donig work.

IF you buy your card you can't do non-union work, even non-union extra work!

YOu also have to pay dues.

As SAG Eligble you can get a SAG agent and do SAG job auditions because you can buy your card.

Now, at any point you can buy an AFTRA card off the street and then if you do one AFTRA job you can become SAG Eligable again.

But then you are buying two cards.

So talk with SAG and find out the expiration date (also realize the fee can go up between now and then) of your eligilbilty.

Now would be the time time to get a SAG film and TV agent. They will take you with SAG Eligability.

Once in SAG you have to be with a SAG franchised agent.

So there are good advantages to being eligable.

Since the SAG card is not easy to get and if you are serious and don't do much nonunion film work, I'd buy the card before your eligablity expires.
