Position:Home>Theater & Acting> I NEED help about Musicals?

Question:I have a director who is different from others I really want a good part for the musical. My prob: my director has favorites. There is a girl who selected the musical that we are doing who wants the lead. She can be a diva and I really wish that she wouldn't get the part unless of course she deserved it. But I still want the part too. HOW WOULD YOU SELECT FOR A PART?

WOULD U SELECT SOMEONE FOR THEIR LOOKS COMPARED TO THE CHARACTER?

IF IT WAS A SOPRANO PART- WOULD U EVEN CONSIDER AN ALTO?

at the audition- what would u think if someone came dressed for that character? would u think that it was too much?

would u look more at singing or acting?

I just hate politics- esp. because all of the great roles are built for sopranos and my throat isn't use to that anymore. I want to know how to get ahead and how to make up for my weakness.

They are: I am not a soprano or favorite- I can act and I am a really good singer- when it gets really high then it doesn't sound AS good

I'm not a director and I haven't had a ton of experience in theater, but I love it so much and I know a lot of people who direct and are aspiring directors.

Politics is tough, I hate it so much too. I think that if the group I was with was that political based, I really wouldn't even want to be a lead role in a group like that. It'd be a lot of tension between me and the other people who were competing for the part. It's rough.

If I were doing a musical, I personally would look for someone who comes closest to having the whole deal. The look of the character, the acting skill, and the voice. I think if I found someone who I felt fit, I would try to sculpt the role around them, even if it means changing soprano to alto and so forth. But I could be very different than your director.

I personally wouldn't dress for the part. It kind of might be too much.

I do think you have a chance! Try your best, and just be a good person around all the other actors and the director, and you might just get the role! God bless. :)

OK... I have had the lead part in 2 musicals, and am pretty good at the whole audition thing.
Tips:
1) Be friendly/humorous with the director during your audition. Make them like you.
2) Sing as if you WERE the character!
3) DONT come dressed as the character... that IS trying too hard.
4) WATER WATER WATER
5) When you are doing lines, be SURE to sound more confident than the person you are reading with. You will get noticed.

I've obviously never been a musical director. However, dancing and singing would be the biggest things. If someone can't act, just give'em a chorus part and they will go un noticed.
Best of Luck!
