Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Marian the Librarian in the Music Man?

Question:I have a very high soprano voice. I'm 12. We're doing this for our school play, so it's only ages 12-14. Age does not count at all. I am in three choirs and have been singing since I was 2 years old. My twin sister and I were the only ones in the history of our school to make it into our school choir in 5th grade. Should I try out for Marian the Librarian? I will be against some eighth graders to try out. Should I try out for Marian or another part? Also, what songs does Marian sing? Thanks!

You can always try out for more than one part. If you try out for Marian but the director sees that you have quite a bit of talent, chances are you'll either get the part or she'll find some place in the cast for you. Of course there are times when we don't get cast, but the best thing to come from it is our experience and the fact that we are getting our name and face out there. However you seem really confident and I believe you should go for Marian, but perhaps you could write on your audition form that you are open to any part.

There is no harm in trying out! Just gives you more practice for next time if you don't make it.. It sounds like you are confident so just SHOW them age doesn't count and don't be intimidated by competition!
