Question Home

Position:Home>Theater & Acting> If you where an actor/actress what role would you refuse to play.?

Question:I am a professional actor with Christian values. I have turned down roles that would put me in physical danger or violate my personal convictions. A wise actor will consider each role they are offered carefully... it's foolish to take anything and everything you are offered, especially if it is not right for you or your career. I've been in this business for over 20 years and refusing to play certain parts has never hurt my career. It actually caused the directors and producers I worked with to respect me and offer me better parts down the road.

A hooker!
it's soooooo embarrassing!

a cruel mum

a naked person and thats it

a porn star- that poo looks like it hurts!!

Broke Back Mountain

Sex scene with Rose O'Donnel. No way

None. If you are a real actor/actress you take the roles that are given to you and do the job to the best of your ability.

Porn stars aren't even considered actors.

Any role that would put me in physical danger, other than well choreographed and planned out stunts or fights.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of directors who will ask their actors to do stupid and dangerous things... and unfortunately a lot of times actors either don't realize how dangerous what they're being asked to do is... or they just feel the pressure to do it and don't want to make waves by refusing or standing up for themselves. I've seen it. I've been in that position, too.

a psycho role like that of creepy Norman Bates...

None. Whats the point in being a actor if you refuse to do something. OK maybe I would refuse to do a gay sex scene but thats personal, I could still do the play/movie we could just skip that part. But acting is acting you are not being yourself its sort of imperanation, so why be embarrased and say no?

Any roles except the ones that cost me for my career!m LOL

A role that would get me wide industry exposure in a type cast situation, if I didn't want to be type cast, that is.

Some actors don't mind it.

The Leonard Nimoy syndrome. He was a pointy eybrow alien in a Republic Serial then a pointy eybrow alien for three years in Star Trek and it forced him to write a book I AM NOT SPOCK which he recanted years later.

The Jack Nicholson syndrome. He gets cast as more crazies than anyone else, but he seems to love it! YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

Name ONE role in which is was not at least partially off the deep end!
