Position:Home>Theater & Acting> How do you handle after-audition anxiety?

Question:Most of the people I know freak out right before an audition, but i freak out after! I'm super okay with showcasing my talents and i know i have some talent (sorry if that sounds cocky :) but yeah. our drama teacher--he's posting up the cast list tomorrow and everyone's been telling me that i've been really good at playing a certain role. but i'm freaking out and negativity keeps taking over my mind "what if i don't get it?? what if SHE gets it? what if i'm an extra again?????"

any advice to keep me alert at the situation, but not spazzing out over it?? :) thanks, i really need help lols.

I used to have a ritual after every audition. I would go out for ice cream and then go to a movie. I imagine it is too late tonight to do either but my reasoning behind this was I knew that I had done the best I could and the only thing I could do now was distract myself. So what can you do until that cast list is posted to completely distract yourself? Watch a movie, read a great book, talk to friends, bake cookies.....anything you can think of that will stop you from thinking. "What ifs" are our worst enemies. You will not be able to accomplish anything by worrying about the end result. Let those great comments from everyone sink in as confirmation that you did a great job and now release it.

Let us know how you did. But for now let it go and know you are wonderful no matter what!

the play was "High School Musical" and I got Gabriella!!! :) Report It

  • There's really nothing you can do to change the situation no matter how it turns out so just let the "roles" fall where they may and don't sweat it. Why get worked up about something that you have no control over?
Don't spazz out until you are up for a role that you are going to get paid to play!!
    Good luck
