I've been acting since high school. That's where I got most of my start, I didn't do very many productions but I took a lot of acting and dance classes. Then I went to AMDA in nyc, which is a two year acting conservatory which is different from regular college, a conservatory is a serious concentration on that subject, in AMDA's case it's like acting boot camp. After I graduated from AMDA, I auditioned for about 4 months straight before getting my first production which was a play. When you are first starting out in NYC it's better to aim at student films and off off broadway things just to build up your resume, then start going for bigger things. Also take some time to learn about the business itself. Learn about the unions, procedures, agents, managers, etc. That is what you'll be dealing with more then actually acting and many people overlook that.

I went to AMDA too, ^she^ is right.
