I hate to break it to you, but in the perspective of Broadway, starring in your school's musical isn't much of a big deal at all. Back up the ego a little bit. Confidence and being self-assured will get you far in this field, but trust me, there is and always will be someone better than you out there, no matter how talented you are.

Now that I have that out of my system...

Look into majoring in musical theatre when you go to college. There are a lot of great programs out there... Syracuse, Carnegie Mellon, NYU, Shenandoah, and Boston Conservatory, to name a few. There's a ton more out there, but that's just what I have off the top of my head.

Work hard and train well in college, audition for university productions, and audition for summerstock shows. The programs should prepare you for how to break into the professional world, and after college you can start auditioning for professional theatres, national touring companies, and even Broadway.

Trust me, majoring in a good musical theatre program will prepare you wonderfully to work professionally. Never assume you know it all or that you are the best - you can ALWAYS learn more about this craft, you can ALWAYS get better, and as I said before, there is ALWAYS someone out there who is better than you. Always work to improve.

Good luck to you!

and I want to add that I am sorry for comming out that way, totally out of my rules, please forgive me Report It

  • try starring in a theater near you and maybe the big guys will come and see

First, you develop modesty. Then you practice and train and get lots of experience, like one school show is not going to impress anyone but you. You need to go to a university which has a strong musical theatre training program. There are very few and very hard to get into and very expensive. Lots of luck.

You start by getting an agent and get rid of the ego. Honey your not going to get anywhere telling everyone your great, everyone thinks they are the best but to get to the top you have to start small especially on broadway. Hundreds of people come to New York thinking they are going to become actors, there are just not that many roles availably so you have to be willing to be chores and tiny walk in roles before even thinking about leads. You also have to be willing to accept failure and know that you won't always get roles and you'll have to do other things even if your dream is Broadway in the long run try doing local theater and small venues first its your best beat.
good luck in whatever you do.

    First lose the attitude.
